Hyundai: production Atlas on the line at the Georgia Metaplant in 2028

The claim

At CES on January 5, 2026, Hyundai said the production model of Boston Dynamics' Atlas will be deployed at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in Georgia starting in 2028, first on parts sequencing, with assembly tasks expected by 2030, and that Boston Dynamics is targeting output of up to 30,000 Atlas units a year by 2028. May 2026 investor materials described more than 25,000 Atlas robots across Hyundai and Kia plants, Georgia first, Kia's Georgia plant in 2029.

Caveats baked in at the time

• Two different numbers circulate: 30,000 a year is a production-capacity target; 25,000-plus is a deployment count. Neither has a cost, a throughput target, or a named work cell attached.
• Atlas first goes through map-based training at the Robot Metaplant Application Center. Training there is not deployment.

What counts as met

Met if production Atlas units are working a sequencing station on the Metaplant America line during 2028, confirmed by Hyundai. Pilots, training-center runs, and demos at the plant do not count.
